We’ll be the first to admit that doing laundry isn’t the most exciting part of adulting. While we bet you’d rather be poolside with a cocktail, your laundry room doesn’t have to be a pit of despair to avoid: it can be a space that’s not only functional, but also a thing of beauty.
First, take a big deep breath and have a whiff of this blog article – yes, it smells like the cleanest laundry you’ve ever laid eyes on. How is that possible? Well, we put our brains on ‘spin cycle’ to come up with these 5 laundry room ideas to make your next home renovation or DIY project a fresh one.
What should every laundry room have?
A good laundry room is a space that balances form and function. Not only does it need to cater to how you use it, but it also has to work with the design of your home.
As a baseline, your laundry should have the following:
- A washing machine (a dryer is optional, depending on space and climate)
- A deep sink
- Storage (for linen, towels and other cleaning essentials)
- Bench space (for folding clean laundry)
- Iron and ironing board (don’t be lazy!)
- Laundry basket/s
- Drying rack
- Bin (for any waste).
Take the time to plan it out before you start hammering in any nails (bonus points if you also gather items from the list above that you’re going to use).
Laundry room ideas to spark your creativity
1. Customise and personalise the space
Just like your home office, your laundry is really all about YOU. Make your laundry room ooze personality (if that’s your style) or keep it minimal to be ‘on brand’ with the rest of your home. The choice is yours!
2. Match cabinet hardware to laundry accessories
Style like a pro by rolling out your chosen design theme across every inch of your laundry room, just like Alana and Aythan from California Crescent. They used our Circle Resin Terrazzo Knobs as cabinet knobs which are perfectly complemented by a soap dispenser and a stunning overall colour palette.

3. Pimp your storage (like a BOSS)
The standard laundry room is quite small so this is where storage options can be a game changer. Be like Kate from House of Hollingsworth who is bursting with laundry room ideas! For one, she’s used our very popular White Marble and Brass Cylinder Pulls and Handles. And two, check out the storage – shelves, cupboards, wall hooks and more!

4. Make a splash with…a custom splashback
Who says the kitchen is the only room that deserves a splashback? Not us! Take inspiration from Amber over at From Bland To Boho who not only has a gorgeous mosaic splashback, but also uses our Wedged White Marble and Wood Pulls (back in stock soon!) to brighten up those cabinets.
5. Integrate natural materials
We love to do this wherever we can (which is evidenced in a lot of our cabinet handles and pulls). Ditch the lifeless and clinical-feel and embrace natural wood benches, cupboards and even cleaning items – just like our fellow Do.Uppers’ have above! It can bring a warmth to your laundry that you didn’t know you needed!
You’re loaded up with laundry room ideas – now go forth and conquer!
We hope you’re feeling inspired and ready to give your laundry a little TLC. We’d love to see what you get up to, so make sure you tag us on socials using @do.upper – now those clothes aren’t going to fold themselves, so time to get back to adulting!
