5 Winter Decorating Tips to Add Warmth to your Home Interiors

winter decorating 1 1

As the gloom and grey of winter arrives outside your window, the natural urge to hunker down, hibernate and get cozy becomes even more pronounced. When the season changes, it’s a great time to mix things up at home and bring in some warmth to your interiors and décor.

To give you a head start, we’ve done a little research and would love to share our top five decorating tips to help you spice up your home this winter. So grab a cup of hot chockie, wrap yourself in a throw and let’s dive in.

1. Focus on earthy tones

One of the best ways to warm things up is to use earthy tones. To counteract the darkness and cool shades of winter, pay attention to your colour palette – this season is the perfect excuse for rich, saturated tones, like burnt orange, red, deep jewel green or even rusty brown.

2. Be intentional with materials and textures

Once you’ve nailed your colour palette, you might like to introduce or layer in some textured materials. This could involve combinations of soft furnishings or furniture or both! If you’re unsure of what combos to try, here’s a little inspiration to get those creative juices flowing.

Mango wood and stone

Two of our favourite materials are mango wood and stone. Both are solid materials yet give off the right amount of warmth. You’ll see what we mean in our Mango Wood T-Bar Pull (great for creating a Bali vibe at home) or our Stone and Wood Bowl Knob (perfect for dressers and looks a bit like the inside of a coconut, don’t you think?).

Mango wood and shell

Another dazzling match is mango wood and shell, which is exemplified in the Pinwheel Shell Knob. The mango wood is a great foundation for the shell, which seems to almost spin and glow right before your eyes.

Marble and wood

A classic material duo would have to be marble and wood. The smoothness of the marble is offset by the patterns of the wood, which you can see in our Wedged White Marble and Wood Pull Bar. And for something a little out of the ordinary, check out our White Round Marble and Wood Intercross Knob (the level of detail will blow your mind!).

3. Rearrange your space

There’s an old adage that says ‘a change is as good as a holiday’ – and we tend to agree. Often a space can be crying out for a bit of love, so grab a pen and paper, map out your space and see what pieces you could move around.

Rearranging a space doesn’t need to be dramatic, but shifting the focus of the room – or switching up how you move through it – can give you a whole new lease on life.

4. Introduce Curtain Tiebacks

For that extra layer of detail and warmth, consider our Jute and Black Zig-Zag Curtain Tie Back. It’s a match made in heaven for our Button Jute Knob and can be nautical or earthy depending on what décor you’ve got at home.
