The Beauty of Going All Natural

It’s 2021, so hopefully we’ve all got the memo by now that we should fully embrace our natural, true selves. That it’s our differences, imperfections and quirks that make us special, and it’s often those things that our friends and family love most about us. Our Do.Up team is certainly diverse bunch of folks who are far from perfect, but that’s why we hired them. We don’t do uniform, ordinary or predictable – and that goes for our products as well as our people.

We offer ranges that utilise all natural, sustainable materials which means that no two items are exactly the same. One of the questions Do Uppers often ask us is, “Why is this one not the same as the other?” And that’s an easy one to answer. Our materials are formed naturally, and this gives them unique markings and characteristics which we think makes each piece even more special. They are also handmade by artisans around the world who directly benefit from your purchase, rather than being bulk made in a factory.

Naturally, Uniquely You

Using natural materials in your home is about connecting the uniqueness of your personality with the way you style your home. No two people are the same, so why should you fill your home with cookie-cutter products that thousands of other people also have? Because we’re committed to using natural, sustainable materials, it means that one knob might be a little bigger than another or one marble handle might have more distinctive veining than other. That’s something that we fully embrace, but it might not be for everyone.

One of our most naturally unique products is our range of Agate Knobs. Agate is one of our favourite materials because when it’s sliced, it reveals an intriguing, vivid pattern of beautiful multi-coloured rings. Each slice of agate varies in colour, veining, shape and size and therefore so does each of our knobs. Finished with a gold edge, these knobs will transform any piece of furniture into a distinctive work of art.

To a lesser extent, both rose quartz and marble also have unique properties. When the natural stone is cut, beautiful patterns and colours emerge. So, when you choose our Rose Quartz Knob or Marble and Brass Pentagon Knob, you’ll know that you’re getting your hands on a piece of small décor that is quite literally ‘one of a kind’.

Bring the Outside In

Using natural materials in your home is also about bringing the sense of calm you feel when walking through the countryside or swimming in the ocean into your home. It’s no coincidence that so many of us became ‘plant parents’ during the Covid-19 pandemic. But nature doesn’t have to mean turning your living room into a jungle. After all, how many of those succulents you bought a year ago are still alive?

Using other natural materials like stone, wood and cotton can also bring a sense of being connected to the earth. We love using mango wood to bring a rustic feel into our homes because as well as looking beautiful, it has the added benefit of being incredibly sustainable. The tree is first used for its fruit before being cut down, creating a sustainable cycle of plantation and harvest.

We love everything about using natural, sustainable materials to make our products, but what we love even more is seeing them come to life in your homes. We want to create a community of like-minded people who embrace authenticity, are just as proud of their imperfections as they are of their achievements and who genuinely care about the planet and all its people. So, when you upcycle that old bedside table with our knobs that are as vivid as your personality, or screw in a handle that brings that same sense of calm you felt last time you were at the beach, let us know by uploading a picture to Instagram and tagging @do.upper.
