What’s your interior design style? Over at Do.Up, we’re big believers that the right design style for you will give you all the good feels! Have you ever walked into a room only to suddenly feel more relaxed? In awe? Swept away? Finding a style that speaks to you can make your space extra joyful.

Or maybe you’re not a one-style person at all! Maybe you love to combine different interior design styles or have different aesthetics in each room. There are so many complimentary designs and we’re massive advocates for creating inspired spaces that are unique and beautifully yours. Your home should be made very much your own and reflect your personality!

That said, check out these 10 interior design styles to see what speaks best and brightest to you.

Modern-Contemporary

Appreciation of craftsmanship, simplicity and a naturally relaxed feeling is what the Modern-Contemporary design style is all about here in Australia. Think earthy materials, natural colours, wood and stone. Excellent for smaller spaces, it highlights functionality, geometry and clean lines. Our D. LUXE Pienza Collection offers perfectly inspired shapes (oh hey, Matte Black Brass Half Moon Handle) that exude Modern-Contemporary feels. It also boasts earthy elements in hexagonal shapes (loving the geometry!) like Matte Black Brass Hex Knobs. Add these to storage cupboards, kitchen cabinets or vanity drawers to help create a clean, streamlined space with a simple, relaxed and highly functional design.

Mid Century

The 1940s to 1970s architectural and creative era made a huge impression on interior design. In fact, these Mid-Century interior design styles (shall we dare say, this movement!?) are still popular and well-loved today. A relaxed, post-war era aesthetic, think nostalgic retro feels. Easy living that speaks to functionality and openness. A love of pops of colour, modern art and patterns and quirky accents (think mosaic kitchen tiling and funky light fixtures), this interior design style embraces your inner creative artist. Break out beautifully cosy, textured rugs, pop art and egg-shaped chairs.

Bohemian

Artistic, off-beat and all about freedom! This carefree, eclectic style takes inspiration from every corner of the globe. Bright colours, tribal-like patterns, hand-woven rugs and rattan (our new Rattan and Beech Wood Knobs or Wall Hooks, anyone?). Plants, crystals and sheepskin rugs. Ceramics and unique works of art. Discover order in this beautiful chaos. The Bohemian style has come more into fashion of late as new generations of home renters and owners embrace their natural, spiritual and worldly sides. “Let the sun shine” (Hair the musical, anyone? Seemed fitting) with our Curtain Tie Backs Range. Handcrafted cotton and jute curtain tie backs are sure to add the perfect Bohemian flair to any open window.

Coastal

Speaking of Coastal. We can almost taste that salty sea air… sigh. If you like the Boho feel but the coastal spirit inside is aching to come out, the blend of Bohemian and Coastal design has been quite on-trend of late. We even wrote about it! Check out our blog that showcases coastal décor with a touch of bohemian flair. Our curtain tie backs perfectly compliment this style. Open that window and embrace nature’s beauty (and if you’re lucky, maybe a peek of the ocean!). Fresh, relaxed and bright with natural light, the Coastal interior design style is all about bringing the airy, fresh and cheerful feelings of the sun, sand and sea into your living space. White, turquoise and teal. Soft, flowing fabrics. Ropes and natural fibres. Add some nautical flair and texture to your cupboard doors with our Jute and Cotton Cabinet Knobs.

Industrial

For the lovers of the loft and reclaimed warehouse spaces, Industrial design is for you! Think city-dwelling. Beams. Pipes. Wide open spaces and high ceilings. Lofted bedrooms. Bricks and large windows. Making use of the exposed bricks or other elements in the space itself is paramount to working with this style. Salvaged or recycled art, furnishings and accessories add hip and contemporary sensibilities while texture, rugs, throws and worn leather create a sense of cosiness in a space that could otherwise feel cold. This is a style not for the faint of heart, but when it’s done right does it ever pop!

Scandinavian

The Scandinavian interior design style embraces a similarly simple and functional style as the Modern-Contemporary above. However, light-coloured wood like beech and ash, plants and greenery invite a sense of nature’s simplicity indoors. Gentle pops of light, muted colours like baby blues, soft greys or even mint greens add a touch of brightness to get you through the colder months. Scandi styling is all about merging efficiency with warmth and welcome. Not sure where to start? Our new Beechwood range offers beautiful Beech Wood Wall Hooks to hang kitchen accessories in a smaller space or as decorative wall hooks for art in your living room.

Country rustic

Timeless. Warm. A beautiful blend of old and new. The Country Rustic interior design style embraces natural furnishings and is all about repurposing. Talk about paradise for anyone interested in sustainable design! Wood panelling and exposed beams speak to the old country aesthetic, while soft florals, plants and other organic materials add a touch of natural beauty. Check the amazing country aesthetic that @do.upper Kate of @house_of_hollingsworth brought to life! Our Marble and Brass Cylinder Handles and Pulls feature in her beautiful laundry.

Vintage

Vintage is all about incorporating design styles, textiles, colours, furnishings and accessories from earlier periods. Depending on the flavour of Vintage you’re after, the style can vary. Think Shabby Chic or Mid-Century mentioned above. Or maybe the old-fashioned romance of French Provincial is more your jam — our Antique Gold Swivel Wall Hook would surely complete your entrance hall look alongside your distressed wooden bench. No matter your old-school sensibilities, make your Vintage vibes your own and escape to another time.

Transitional

What is “transitional”, you ask? This blended style is where Modern and Traditional elements of interior design meet! We understand that you can’t always pick your favourite. So why not find freedom in combining the two? Think comfortable yet functional furniture. Neutral colour palettes (maybe a simple accent colour, for those who need that bright spark in their day). Antique furniture pieces mixed with plush, clean-lined upholstery. This style gives you the designer a lovely amount of freedom to find the beauty in the simple and comfort in the classics.

Eclectic

Style Wizards, this one’s for you! If you have an eye for design, the Eclectic interior can be a designer’s creative dream. If you don’t…it can wind up looking like a five year old just gave your space a make over a là their Dream Dollhouse. This (amazing, in our opinion!) style gives you free reign to blend any region of the globe, old and new, colours, textures, luxe and upcycled. To avoid the whole mess and chaos vibe, it’s about creating cohesion and consistency within the freedom and individuality. Choose one colour as a through line or repeat shapes. Create a gallery wall that offers similar themes or design. Find the areas where you can create flow, then run wild! At Do.Up we have an incredible array of knobs, handles and wall hooks with shapes, textures and colours to suit every Style Wizard going Eclectic in their home.
